Sony
XPERIA Z5 Dual has taken over most of its features under the hood of its
predecessor (Z3 +), but the design is slightly different. Of course, it also
has a metal edge, while the front and back are made of glass. The body of the
XPERIA Z5 Dual has a smooth finish that feels good in the hand and does not
stain. The side panels are flat and provide good grip. Most importantly, it
comes in a variety of eye-catching colors, including white, graphite black,
gold and green. Like other Sony devices, the XPERIA Z5 Dual is also IP68 rated,
which means it is dustproof and water resistant to a depth of 1.5 meters and a
maximum of 30 minutes. The micro USB port and the 3.5 jacks are not covered
while the SIM and micro SD card slots are completely covered.
For
the XPERIA Z5 Dual, Sony opted for a larger rectangular on / off switch rather
than a crown design found on previous Sony devices. The volume rocker is also
on the right side, just below the on / off switch. Under the volume rocker is a
special camera button. Note that the power button also acts as a fingerprint
sensor. The advantage of activating the power button with the fingerprint
sensor is that you can open the phone with a single touch of a button. For
other devices where the power button is different than the fingerprint sensor,
users must first press the power button and then use the fingerprint sensor to
open the device. In short, the Sony XPERIA Z5 Dual has a first-class design
that is attractive and easy to use.
Camera:
After
the design, Sony is very proud of the XPERIA Z5 cameras. The XPERIA Z5 Dual
features a 23 megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor, up to 8x digital zoom
and 24mm wide angle G lens. It has an ISO value of up to 12800, image and video
stabilization features, 4K video recording capability, and hybrid autofocus,
which is supposed to focus on just 0.3 seconds.
For
selfies, the Z5 Dual features a 5 megapixel front camera with 25mm wide-angle
lens and video / image stabilization feature. As Sony claims, the Sony XPERIA
Z5 Dual cameras are quite fast. It's difficult to tell if they really get sharp
in just 0.3 seconds, but they can take pictures very quickly. As expected, the
cameras work in both low light and good lighting.
Performance:
The
XPERIA Z5 Dual has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor as its
predecessor, the XPERIA Z3 +. The Snapdragon 810 was previously criticized for
heating the device, but Sony claimed that the Z5 dual addressed the problem. In
our review, however, the XPERIA Z5 was warmed up during intensive tasks such as
continuous camera operation or games.
However,
the 64-bit octa-core processor did not let us down given its muscle power.
Together with the Adreno 430 graphics processor and 3GB of RAM, it offered
smooth performance during multitasking and gaming. The storage capacity of the
Z5 is as good as any flagship with 32GB of internal storage and a micro SD card
slot that can hold a 200GB micro SD card. Currently the phone has the Android
Lollipop operating system, but the Android Marshmallow update will be available
shortly. Like other Sony phones, it has the customized XPERIA interface, which
provides a pleasant skin. The app drawer looks neat and allows for easy
detection. Those who tend to download many apps should not be worried because
the UI provides a search tool. I especially liked the "Favorites"
bar, which is displayed when you use the "Last" button.
