The XPERIA
XA2 Plus is a smartphone with an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC based on
a 14nm process with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz. It has 6GB of RAM and 64GB
of internal memory. The front panel features a 6-inch display with 2160 × 1080
Full HD + resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and image enhancement
support. The display supports a larger aspect ratio of 18: 9 and is available
in three different colors: thermal green, gold and pure black.
The Sony XPERIA
XA2 Plus is an upgrade to the XA2 Ultra in season. It introduces the first
mid-range 18: 9 screen - a 1080p + 6-inch display - with almost the same
surface finish, but with a phone that's narrower and shorter. Gorilla Glass
Protection has been updated to version 5 (out of 4). The image sensors from
Sony are in the heart of almost every popular smartphone camera. With XPERIA
XA2 Plus, Sony has equipped the smartphone with a 23 megapixel main camera that
supports AI scene detection and detects up to 52 smart scenes. The function
sounds similar to Samsung and Huawei with their latest flagship devices. The
front camera looks retrospective with a modest 8-megapixel sensor with a
narrower aperture of 2.4. The XPERIA XA2 Plus is 157 x 75 x 9.6 mm and weighs
about 205 grams. The smartphone has a 3,580 mAh battery and supports Qualcomm
Quick Charge 3.0. Sony has also added its own battery management features that
can extend battery life.
The XPERIA XA2 Plus comes in two
storage options: 4GB of RAM with 32GB of storage and 6GB of RAM with 64GB of
storage and support for expandable storage capacities of up to 400GB through a
hybrid SD card slot. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,
GPS and 4G LTE and offers options for single or dual SIM variants. Another
advantage of the XA2 Plus is that it is lighter (205 g vs. 221 g) and has the
same battery capacity of 3,580 mAh (and Quick Charge 3.0 holds). Considering
that the Ultra has impressive 100 hour duration, we expect the XA2 Plus to do
the same thing when testing the battery (which is currently underway). The only
place where the plus can be considered downgrading from the Ultra is the selfie
camera - you get the XPERIA XA2's standard 8MP camera instead of the Ultra's
dual 16MP + 8MP Sharpshooter, whose top feature was OIS. Despite the impressive
hardware (on paper), the XA2 Ultra Selfie camera was not very good.
Sony definitely offers a more modern
design with the XPERIA XA2 Plus than the XA2 duo introduced at the beginning of
the year. So we go into the test with cautious optimism, but that has lost
something special about Ultra and we can now tell you that the conclusion
involves a discussion about the price.
