Less
than a year has passed since Sony launched the latest XA series device. Now it
already has a successor. The Sony XA2 was announced at the CES 2018 and has a
slightly updated design, a larger display and a larger battery and improved
camera optics.
Sony XPERIA XA2 vs XPERIA XA1 -
Design:
As
usual with Sony, the latest XPERIA is recognizable as an XPERIA device. It is
angular and simple. Both phones have a very small bezel on the sides of the
screen. This time, however, the upper and lower parts of the front frame are
also narrower. That's why the XA2 is just 142mm tall. This is 1mm shorter than
its predecessor, despite a larger 5.2-inch display. With a width of 70 mm it is
3 mm wider than the XA1, and its thickness is 9.7 mm, which corresponds to today's
standards, and is 1.7 mm thicker than the XA1.
Its
171 gram weight is also significantly heavier than the 144 gram XA1, probably
due to the increased battery capacity discussed below in this comparison. Both
phones are made of a combination of metal and glass, both with sturdy aluminum
frames. The XA2 has flashes of polished metal on the upper and lower chamfers.
However, the back wall itself is made of a matching polycarbonate and not a
thin piece of metal. More importantly, the XA2 has a fingerprint sensor on the
back, something that the XA series has been missing so far. No phone has water
or dust resistance according to IP protection. XA2 will be available in silver,
black and blue and pink, while the XA1 will offer the options white, black,
gold and pink.

Display:
This
year, the powerful mid-range phone has a Full HD (1920 x 1080) display that
spans a 5.2-inch panel. This means it's an impressive 424 pixels per inch on an
IPS LCD screen. Compare that to the XA1's 5880-inch 1280 x 720 pixel IPS LCD
panel, which was only 294 pixels per inch, and you'll see how much improvement
this is. As mentioned before, the screen stays from edge to edge and is
protected from daily bumps and scratches by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass,
just like the XA1.

Cameras:
As
with Sony phones have both devices have an impressive look, but the new model
has spiced things up a bit. In a similar way, you can now shoot slow motion
videos at up to 120 frames per second, while the XA1 does not offer a frame
rate worth crying out about. In addition, the XA2 is in able to capture videos
with 4K resolution and only XA1 1080p. Like its predecessor, the XA2 also
offers the proven SteadyShot technology to minimize blur by shaky hands: Both
offer wide-angle cameras with 8 megapixel front camera, but with the 120 -Grade
Super Wide Lens XA2 takes things to the next level, allowing you to integrate
more people and backgrounds into your selfies.
Sony XPERIA XA2 vs XPERIA XA1 - Hardware
and Specifications:
The
Qualcomm 6 Series midrange Snapdragon chips have performed well in recent
years. Therefore, it is a wise choice of Sony this year. The XA2 features a
Snapdragon 630 processor, which should be a significant improvement over the XA1's
Mediatek Helio P20 processor. In terms of memory and memory, both phones are
the same. Both the 2017 phone and the 2018-XA phone come with 3GB of RAM and
32GB of storage. In our opinion, this is the bare minimum you need for a
telephone today.
The
biggest improvement from Sony this year is the battery. Last year's model had a
capacity of 2,300 mAh, which is generous by no comparison. This year, Sony has
added massive 1,000 mAh, which increases the capacity to 3,300 mAh. This is the
same capacity as the OnePlus 5T, which has a larger screen and a more powerful
processor. Last year, Sony's XA1 chargers were equipped with their own adaptive
Qnovo charger to ensure that the fast charging performance of the MediaTek
PumpExpress technology does not damage the battery. This year's technology is
the same, but with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. That means you get charged really
fast, but for sure.
Sony XPERIA XA2 and XPERIA XA1
software:
Android
runs on both phones with Sony's own software and additional apps that Sony
found useful. The big difference between the two is that the XA2 is launched
with the latest Android version. This is Android 8.0 Oreo.
