The
XPERIA XA1 and XPERIA XA1 Ultra were launched by MWC earlier this year. As for
specifications and features, the new XPERIA XA1 Plus is right in the middle of
the two. The design of Sony returns here. The XA1 Plus has a metal body with
rounded corners and a flat top and bottom. The bezels are impressively thin on
the sides of the display, but the upper and lower jaws are really thick and
feel almost unnecessary at this point. Sony does keep them to maintain the
signature design, but at a time when the industry is moving toward ever-higher
screen-to-body ratios, they look incredibly outdated. At least the extra space
is not completely wasteful and houses a dual front speaker setup.
As
mentioned, the XA1 Plus stands out in the middle of its older siblings, and
that starts with the size. While the XA1 and the XA1 Ultra have 5 "and
6" displays respectively, the XA1 Plus has a 5.5 "full HD resolution
IPS LCD screen. As with the other two, this display achieves 100% of the sRGB
color space. Like the other two devices in the series, the XA1 Plus is powered
by a Mediatek Helio P20 processor. It has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal
memory, which is expandable via a Micro SD card to an additional 256GB. As with
the Sony smartphones, the US version of the XA1 Plus does not have a
fingerprint scanner installed, but will be available in the European edition of
the phone. However, you can use IP68 protection for dust and water resistance.
Also
in the camera department it remains similar: The XA1 Plus has a 23 MP rear
contactor with Aperture 2.0. Front is an 8 MP shooter, which is better than the
XA1, but not as good as the one with the XA1 Ultra. Since the main camera is
the same, the camera performance of the XA1 Plus should be just as impressive
as the others, but we definitely need to test it more before it can draw
conclusions. The one department that got a much needed boost is the battery.
The XA1 Plus pack is in a battery larger than its two siblings with its 3,430
mAh unit. With Qnovo Adaptive Charging and the Pump Express 2.0 fast charging
technology on board, you should have no trouble recharging the big battery.
On
the software side, the XPERIA XA1 Plus lists Android 7.1.2 Nougat with the minimalist
user interface of Sony. Sony has always done well to keep the software
experience as close and as fast as Android's, while being aesthetically so
different that it's its own business. Of course, you'll also get Sony's own
apps on board to further enhance the experience. With this Sony XPERIA XA1 Plus
you have it fast for you! Although there are slight differences between the
three smartphones in the XA1 series, it essentially depends on your size
preference. If you find the 5-inch XA1 too small and the 6-inch XA1-Ultra too
big, the center of the bottom of the XA1 Plus may be the best for you.
