Sony
offers another robust midrange phone for the XPERIA XA2 Plus. In the test,
however, we found some weaknesses. Although there are no problems with the
performance, the battery life convinces and the image quality of the display is
very good. On the other hand, the device is gone and the camera is not loved by
anyone. The price is obviously too high for this mixed result.

with Transparent Edges:
The
special shape of the Sony XPERIA XA2 Plus does not differ much from the normal
version: the edges on the left and right sides are completely round, while the
top and bottom ends of the Sony phone are flat and the edges look like broken.
Sony called it "diamond cut". Compared to the XPERIA XA2, only the
upper and lower edges of the outer casing are made of aluminum and the sides
and back are made of plastic. Gorilla glass protects the display.
This
makes the XPERIA XA2 Plus unique in terms of smartphones. Part of the phone is
round and sometimes even more avant-garde. Unknown "diamond cuts" at
the top and bottom are adaptable things and feelings, especially at the
beginning. The transition of the individual housing parts can be seen and felt
as a seam. There is no problem with the quality of the build. The plastic
plates look very chic and prevent fingerprints from being removed.
Overall,
however, the XPERIA XA2 Plus is a rather bulky model. The dimensions of 15.7 x
7.5 inches are still normal for a 6.0-inch mobile phone. With a thickness of
one centimeter and a weight of over 200 grams, it moves at the lower end of the
mobility scale. However, this has the cell phone in common with other XPERIA
models. The design of the Sony smartphones certainly has their fans, but for
newcomers it takes some getting used to. Stable it definitely feels. As with
other XPERIA phones, there is a dedicated button to fire the camera in addition
to the power button and volume control at the bottom of the device frame.
Bright display with Full HD plus
Resolution:
Compared
to the XPERIA XA2, the LC display has clearly grown to a smooth diagonal of 6
inches. Since the resolution was not increased to the same extent, but only
from Full HD to Full HD Plus (2,160 x 1,080 pixels), the pixel density drops
slightly. At 403 ppi, however, it is still satisfactory. The maximum brightness
of the screen is also very good: We measure around 596 cd / m² - so the cell
phone can also be used well in direct sunlight.
The
checkerboard contrast reaches a very good value of 150: 1. In terms of color
space, the results are mediocre compared to other phones: the sRGB color space
is covered at 125 percent and the DCI-P3 color space at 87 percent. The XPERIA
XA2 Plus has a picture enhancement mode and a "very vivid" picture
mode in which the colors are turned up even more. In a notch, the display of
the Sony device is not visible, above and below a thick black bar.
The
Sony XPERIA XA2 Plus is a mid-range phone with midrange hardware. In this area,
the device fully lives up to expectations, because with the XPERIA XA2 also
comes in the Plus version of an eight-core processor Snapdragon 630 Qualcomm
used. It's not the latest model, but the processor has proven itself. Compared
to the normal version, Sony has increased the memory of the XPERIA XA2 Plus by
one gigabyte to 4 GB. All apps are running smoothly and apart from the most
demanding games, there should be no performance issues.
