As early in 2016, the Samsung Galaxy
S7 was as good as a mobile phone. In 2018, it has been replaced many times - of
course there are S8 and S9, as well as Note 8 and some other competitors from
Sony, HTC, Huawei, and of course Apple. During that time, prices have risen
sharply, so you won't get Samsung's latest price at £569 as in 2016. S8 is a
good buy, even for a year's life, it can be less than £450. You are strolling
around but the most you get the buck, the OnePlus 6 is definitely a £469 steal.
If you are using the Samsung Galaxy
S7, it is still a good phone. But if you want to buy a new product, it will be
very long at the end of your standard two-year contract, so it is worth
spending a little money now. The Galaxy S7 starts at £569, while the Galaxy S7
Edge features a larger 5.5-inch curved screen, starting at £639.
Considering that Samsung's Smartphone
business lags behind Apple in 2015, the Galaxy S6's sales failed to keep pace
with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, making its new flagship product more
expensive is a bold move; nevertheless, The Galaxy S7 Edge is £110 cheaper than
Samsung's newest tablet, the Galaxy S6 Edge+.
Specifications and functions:
The Galaxy S7 devices are
aesthetically similar to the Galaxy S6 models - except for the rounder edges,
the flatter home button / fingerprint sensor, and the larger size of the Galaxy
S7 Edge - but have been updated with Micro SD support Feature that is
strikingly missing from the previous generation. They are also dustproof and
waterproof to IP68 standards, so they can be submerged for 30 minutes at depths
of up to 1.5 meters. The batteries have received major improvements, now up to
3,000 mAh for the Galaxy S7 and 3,600 for the Galaxy S7 Edge. The wireless-charging
support is restored even though the micro-USB port has not been updated to
USB-C.
The standard Galaxy S7 retains the
Galaxy S6's 5.1-inch display size, although the Galaxy S7 Edge has been
increased to 5.5 inches, as mentioned, while retaining its distinctive, tapered
screen. However, both devices have the same Super AMOLED technology and a
resolution of 2560 x 1440 QHD, giving the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge pixel
densities of 576 ppi. Another common feature is the always-on feature, which
allows devices to display basic status information and widgets on the lock
screen while reducing power consumption to one percent per hour.
Rumors that the Galaxy S7 family
included pressure-sensitive displays proved wrong, although the Galaxy S7 Edge
at least offered the shortcuts feature previously only available on the Galaxy
S6 Edge +. This allows users to set up custom app and contact shortcuts that
are accessed via a tab on the phone's screen. One of the more surprising
details is the use of 12 megapixel rear view cameras versus 16 megapixels on
previous models. However, the pixel size has been increased, and the Galaxy S7
and Galaxy S7 Edge also have improved f / 1.7 sensors for better performance in
low light conditions. We are not too worried about their receptivity. The front
camera remains unchanged and remains at 5 MP.
Another surprise is that the larger
Galaxy S7 Edge is actually the thinner device, measuring 151 x 73 x 7.7 mm and
weighing 157 g, while the Galaxy S7 weighs 142 x 70 x 7.9 mm and 152 g. In the
UK, both devices use Samsung's own Exynos 8890 SoC, which includes four 2.3GHz
cores, four 1.6GHz cores, and 4GB of RAM. Only 32GB and 64GB of internal drives
have been confirmed on the memory, leaving the option of 128GB of earlier
Galaxy S models seemingly cold. However, with newly found support for up to 200
GB of Micro SD memory, this is not a total loss.
On the software side, the latest
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the operating system, but it's updated with an
updated version of Samsung's TouchWiz skin, which has been redesigned with
softer, rounded symbols. Samsung Knox, a tool for creating encrypted private
storage for sensitive data and apps, is also preinstalled. The Galaxy S7 and
Galaxy S7 Edge also include a live photos-like feature that animates photos
when viewed in the Gallery app over short video clips taken just before,
during, and after shooting.
