The S8 may now outshine it, but the Samsung Galaxy S7 remains
a solid smartphone in every way. The Samsung Galaxy S7 was as good as the
phones in 2016. It was surpassed several times in 2018 - there are of course
the S8 and S9, but also the grade 8 and a number of other competitors from
Sony, HTC, Huawei and of course Apple.
During this time, prices have risen considerably, so you will
not get the newest £ 569 Samsung price, as you did in 2016. The S8 is a great
buy, even a year in his life, and can be purchased for under £ 450 if you look
around. But for the most bangs for your money, the OnePlus 6 is an absolute
bargain price of £ 469. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is still a decent phone when
you're using it. However, if you are looking for something new, it will be
quite tedious at the end of your two-year contract. It pays to spend a little
more now.
Samsung Galaxy S7 -
What's new?
So, without further ado, here's our test of the Samsung
Galaxy S7. We'll start with a closer look at the most important changes, most
of which are unrecognizable in a fugitive physical inspection. The first
function of note is the memory extension. Galaxy fans were in turmoil about the
lack of a micro SD slot in last year's models, so Samsung has brought the
feature back here. It makes sense to do so, and Samsung has made no compromise
on the design of the phone. The Micro SD card is neatly hidden in an elongated
SIM tray near the top of the Nano SIM card. This means that there is no
unsightly second slot to tarnish the clean lines of the phone.
The dust and water resistance is another nice feature that makes
a comeback here that does not affect the appearance of the phone. It is also an
upgrade to the IP67 protection of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the last flagship of
Samsung that had this feature. Technically, this means that you can immerse the
phone completely in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes, so you can
take photos of crab crayfish in rock pools - if your boat floats I prefer it as
an extra To look at rest. With the Galaxy S7, you do not have to worry about
getting your phone out in the rain or sitting on a beer-soaked table in the
pub. From this perspective, it is something worthwhile.
Samsung Galaxy S7 - Display:
Apart from these headline changes,
however, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is a slight update. The Samsung Galaxy S6 was
and is an excellent smartphone, so this is not a big problem. The S7 model
features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 -
just like last year's Samsung Galaxy S6 - and it's as sharp as sharp. Some may
say that such a high resolution is meaningless; from typical viewing distances,
most people could not see the difference between the screen of the S7 and a
1080p screen of the same size. At least not without resorting to a magnifying
glass, For use in a VR headset such as the Samsung Gear VR, however, such high
resolutions come into their own. When the phone is mounted in VR glasses, the
screen is only inches from your eyes and split in half (one-half per eye), the
resolution you need for a sharp display, and every extra pixel counts.
Samsung Galaxy S7 - Design:
Also the glass sandwich design and
the exotic metallic finish are unchanged. In short, the Samsung Galaxy S7 looks
just as good as the Galaxy S6 last year - all shiny, eye-catching and
glittering - and captures the light in many interesting ways and shines like
freshly cut jewelry. Of all the smartphones I've tested over the years, the S7
feels like the most desirable - the nicest I've ever paid.
However, the shiny finish of the
Galaxy S7 also has its drawbacks: it looks awful when it's covered in greasy
fingerprints, and it also absorbs it quickly. This is a phone that you wipe
with your shirt or trousers several times a day to make it look immaculate. The
good news is that the Gorilla Glass 4 oleophobic coatings make it easy to
banish the fat with a few scrubs and make it look good again.
Turn the Galaxy S7 over and look at
the back. Now you will see the first physical differences between this phone
and last year's Galaxy S6. First, the widely published camera
"humpback" in size of about 1.6 mm compared to the previous model was
reduced to 0.46 mm. That does not sound like much, but has more impact than you
think. A less noticeable hump means it's flatter when you plug it into a
wireless charger, so charging is less likely and it does not tip over or tip
over. The bulging of the camera also has rounded edges, so you will rarely get
caught in your bag when stowing.
