So make your Samsung Galaxy S2
fantastic again. Let us give it up for the constant love of older devices.
Whether you've found the only true device you absolutely love, or the
circumstances keep you up-to-date, nothing is wrong with mobile devices that are
only a few years old. Sure, they may not be as fast or smooth as the things
that are coming out, but that does not mean you should completely exclude them.
Today we'll look at how you can make your Samsung Galaxy S2 fantastic again.
As with all our other manuals for
revising older mobile devices, it's a mix of installing new software or
firmware, buying fancy accessories, and other cool little tricks to rework
devices. Some of the tricks highlighted here are not unique to the Galaxy S2
and can be used on multiple devices if you so desire.
Get the Latest and Best for the Galaxy S2:
The official support for the Galaxy
S2 was terminated some time ago by Samsung. Fortunately, the developer
community has decided to give the older device the much needed firmware update.
While you may not be able to get a pure Android experience, you can try the
KitKat features with CyanogenMod.
The actual method of installing
CyanogenMod 11 on your Samsung Galaxy S2 has been highlighted in our previous
article. However, the key message is as follows: Rebuild your device, download
the correct firmware, install a custom recovery and flash the CyanogenMod-ROM. The
process became even easier with the help of the CyanogenMod installer. While
you've had to do a lot of the grunt work yourself, the installer for PC and Mac
OS is extremely simple. If CyanogenMod does not meet your expectations, check
out our previous article for some of the best custom ROMs for the Galaxy S2.
Expand this battery:
If your original battery is the same
size as the Galaxy S2, you have three years of charging and discharging, where
performance has most likely dropped to zero. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S2
has a replaceable battery that can be replaced with a newer one or, in this
case, a bit fleshier.
There are several resellers offering
countless options for replacement batteries: some are just third-party
batteries that will replace your original S2 battery, others will add a ton
more beef and come with a new case to handle that extra boost, more options can
be found on Amazon and ebay. Always make sure that the battery you want to purchase
is compatible with your version of the Galaxy S2.
Get it on the USB bandwagon:
Did you know that you can use USB
devices with your Galaxy S2? For this you need an adapter cable and from there
you just have to connect everything to your S2. This way you can use your USB
devices like mouse, keyboard and even USB sticks. Similar to most of the
accessories, Samsung has discontinued the production of official accessories
for the Samsung Galaxy S2. However, you can find a variety of third-party
options with other merchants.
It should be noted, however, that the
Galaxy S2 is not supplied with a ton of electricity. So if you were hoping to
connect an external hard drive to your S2, it may not be enough to get the
Galaxy S2 spinning.
