When
Samsung's first Galaxy Note 2011 came out, it was a mobile phone category and
most manufacturers did not normally have screens larger than 4.5 inches. The
5.3-inch screen was pushed forward for five years, turned into a 5.7-inch
panel, was waterproof and Samsung called it the best "big phone"
ever.
But
is the Galaxy Note 7 enough to prove the £ 740 price?
Design and Hardware:
Such
a large screen requires an intimate design, although Samsung has definitely
integrated the features of the Galaxy series, but has also improved. For
example, the phone is double-sided, making it more comfortable than the Galaxy
S6 or S7 Edge by rounding the back of the seat. With a 5.7-inch display, Note 7
may feel good in your hand or pocket. However, the shape differs in size due to
the rotating screen, the tiny bezel and the slim 7.9mm case. It is exactly the
same depth as S7. The Quad HD display (2460 x 1440, 518 PPI) supports high
dynamic range content so you can see the brightest white and darkest black
movies. Even though the content is currently hard to find, this is the future
style you want in your phone.
The
front and back of the phone are covered with a gorilla glass plate 5, which
gives you a better chance of survival if you inevitably drop it. As a person
using the S7 Edge as my daily phone, I was particularly impressed by how Grade
7 felt better than its predecessors. This can reduce the weight by 12 grams and
the total weight is 169 grams. In contrast, the S7 Edge weighs 159g, while the
iPhone 6s Plus weighs 192g and the smaller 6s weighs 143g.
There
is also a new color combination. Samsung has introduced a balanced combination
of blue and gold shades as well as standard silver and black options. I really
chose the other two colors. Do not get me wrong, it's almost embarrassing for
an experienced tech journalist to advertise on the flagship phone, but Samsung
has made the best use of Note 7's design and managed to do it without giving up
on "necessities." "Applies to seasoned users - such as support
for micro SD cards - this is a hardware win that's hard to deny.
As
you would expect from a phone worth £ 700, the rest of the spec list has no
slack, including the Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 Octa Core processor,
depending on the region, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of memory Extension slot option.
Samsung's S-pen:
In
addition to the design, the S-Pen is one of the key touchpad enhancements. It
has a narrower, more sensitive tip than its predecessor, and Samsung decided to
solve the embarrassing problem by misplacing the S Pen, i.e. the phone was
broken. Although I've never used a stylus before when testing a mobile phone
with a cell phone (I just do not think I need to comment on photos or
handwritten notes), Note 7 may be a good introduction for users like me.
More
likely, I use S Pen's new hover feature to capture video clips from movies
played on my screen, automatically convert them to GIF for sharing, and
instantly translate words. Both can now be done very easily without leaving the
page (or clip) you are viewing or touching the screen. Elsewhere, S Pen can
continue to perform all expected tasks, such as B. draw or make notes. You can
also use it to comment on or change screenshots or pictures.
Iris Scanner:
One
reason to really differentiate Grade 7 from competitors is that the Iris
Scanner has become the standard configuration for flagship devices alongside
the Fingerprint Scanner. In the WIRED test, the Iris scanner showed amazing
reliability - it's worth noting that this makes things harder even though I do
not wear glasses to unlock it.
Note 7 waterproof housing:
A
slightly less unique feature of Note 7 is that the outer case is waterproof.
Although it cannot survive the long swim in the sea, it quickly falls into the
shallows. This means that Note 7 is very useful in changeable and often boring
weather in the UK. When it rains, you do not need to use the phone anymore.
Even if your finger is wet, it reacts approximately exactly, unlike a
non-waterproof phone. So, if you cannot tear yourself away from the morning
podcast or playlist, taking a shower in the shower can be part of your everyday
life.
Camera:
For
cameras, Samsung insists on using the same 12 MP dual sensors for S7 and S7
Edge. This is proof that the camera is not an excellent feature for the rest of
the phone. It captures images quickly, is accurate and vibrant, and has many
built-in filters and options that can reduce the need for third-party
applications and free up space on your phone.
The
same goes for the 5 MP squid on the front. If you're looking for a phone that
will make the most of your selfies, Note 7 will not let you down, and these
built-in filters may come in handy again.
Battery life:
Recording
continuous photos and watching videos on such a large screen can affect battery
life, given the size and resolution of the display. However, this is not as
important as you might be worried about. Although the 3500 mAh battery is 100
mAh smaller than the S7 Edge, it is well suited for intensive use throughout
the entire day.
If
you're a moderate user, you'll need to complete one and a half days of battery
before charging. If you are only occasionally on the road, the phone can last
for several days. However, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery may have a wider
range of problems as Samsung has reportedly delayed the shipment of its cell
phones.
