Sony is very good at publishing a lot of confusing phones,
and basically lets us resolve those differences. The Sony XPERIA XA1 Plus is
one of them, between the XPERIA XA1 and the XPERIA XA1 Ultra. Since the XA1
series are midrange products from Sony. If you think that this is a very
unobtrusive phone, you are right.
In this case, however, it is not bad to be inconspicuous. The
XA1 Plus will not set your world on fire, nor will it cost anything - around £
330 / $ 380 (about £ 485) - it will delight your bank manager - but it will not
leave you in lazy frustration Call or miss that huge gimmick you spend with it.
It's not cheap, it's not gourmet, but it's good, it works.
Key Feature:
* Large Full HD screen
* Impressive battery
*Fingerprint scanner
It is clear that Sony wants to sell this phone: screen and
battery. As we showed in our first exercise, the 5.5-inch full-HD display is
perfect for movies and games, and the 3430-mAh battery ensures no juice runs
out in the middle. The baffles above and below the display may be frustrating
for some, while others are disappointed with the monaural speakers, not the
sound that matches the picture quality, but these are not the price breakers at
this price. - Especially the latter can be fixed with headphones, as a matching
3.5 mm jack is available.
XPERIA XA1 Plus was called "Super Mid-End" and we
think that's right. It offers moderate processing power, storage capacity and
storage capacity, but can increase the capacity of the battery and screen and
offers a phone that resembles the "advanced economy". The only
problem is that if there are no prominent features or any kind of marketing
concept, who will buy it, and the PR material that brings its low-key release,
Sony seems to have no answer. Unfortunately, based on our experience in this
report, this may mean that sales will be lower than it should be.
It seems that XA1 Plus carries XPERIA DNA in every way. This
means a much heavier feel than many manufacturers: The XPERIA series has never
paid attention to thinness. However, if you have not had it for a while, the
newer models are less massive than their predecessors, and the slightly curved
sides provide an elliptical shape for the top and bottom edges. This makes them
more comfortable while still being satisfactorily strong, while a thicker
profile means there is an appropriate 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. That
does not mean that you will not get USB-C: The charging port is indeed a
reversible standard and offers the best of both worlds. It is located in the middle
of the floor panel next to a down lighted speaker with grille cover.
The left edge is the double SIM tray door (on our model: some
are single SIM cards) and a micro SD slot that uses a fingernail instead of the
gadgets that have been lost in the first ten seconds of the phone is opened.
The right edge of the phone is also well thought out: Under the volume controls
is the integrated fingerprint sensor button (if you are not in the US) and a
hardware button for photography. Young people may not know that putting the
phone in the landscape means that this button is the shutter of the actual
camera, but we know it. Satisfactory, it also completed the focus of the half
press. More robots should bid: This is a very pleasant way to take pictures.
There's nothing on the lower bezel, which is disappointing:
if your phone has a half-inch chin on the front, you want it to serve a
purpose. There is no home button, not even a capacitive button. The Android
navigation keys on the XA1 Plus are software. So you can expect these buttons
to occupy 5.5 inches of screen space instead of useless edges.
Displays:
* 5.5 inches Full HD refinement
* Gorilla Glass 4
* Pretty fingerprint
If you do not mind the upper and lower margins, the display
is the highlight of this mid-range phone. It measures a 5.5 inch wide (we
called it a "tablet phone", now called a "cell phone"), it
uses a Gorilla Glass 4 coating and offers a traditional aspect ratio of 16: 9
(1080 x 1920, approx. 401 pixels)) Full HD per inch). Although it's nice when
the monitor wraps around the curved side (in fact, Sony seems to be planning a
curved display), the price could be a bit too high.
We will definitely prefer it a little less fingerprint, but:
on a white background you can really see the filth. You must clean it before
loading the video. By default, the phone displays slightly larger text and
icons according to our settings, but this can be easily corrected in the
display settings. You can also change the image color profile from the default
to image enhancement
mode or even Super Vivid. There is not much difference
between them, but there is a good choice.
However, the brightness on the screen of the XA1 Plus is
somewhat unsatisfactory. By default, Adaptive Brightness is enabled, and we've
noticed that the screen usually looks a bit dark. Interestingly, once Adaptive
Brightness is enabled, you can turn the light slider all the way up in the Settings
window, but the screen still does not reach the maximum possible brightness.
Turn off Adaptive Brightness, move the slider back to the center position,
increase it to its maximum, and display the upper area, which is brighter than
we were originally. It's worth noting that, especially if you like your screen,
you need sunglasses.
