Although you may know LG's best-known flagship smartphones,
such as the LG G5, Korean manufacturers also launched many cheap cell phones in
2016. The LG K8 (or we lovingly call it "LG Kate") follows the
super-budget LG K4, the stylish but flawed dual-display LG X screen, and the
completely pointless LG Stylus 2, which is easy to like on the phone.
LG K8 review: This 5-inch phone is reasonably priced and is
particularly suitable as a second mobile phone. This is our complete LG K8
test.
For a phone that costs £ 99, the K8 is actually very easy to
use. The rounded edge is a fascinating detail and also the frame of the phone
is pleasant. The only design element we moved was the cheap plastic back, which
looked very cheap. However, it's a pleasure to see that LG's rear power and
volume buttons are a welcome return. You are in the middle of the camera lens.
With the fingertips you can easily recognize uneven textured surfaces. LG
novices may take a while to adapt, but we're big fans. You can also open the
back panel so you can easily access the removable battery and the Nano SIM and
Micro SD card slots.
One-handed operation is not particularly easy, as the K8 has
very thick edges on each edge. Nevertheless, it is frustrating from the top of
the screen to the notification bar. You can fix this by inserting a handy
notification shortcut in the toolbar below. If you want a cell phone that can
knock you, the K8 also feels reassuring. If you want to experience the design
of the K8 up close, have a look at our unboxing video for LG K8.
LG K8 - Screen and
Media:
Nowadays, there is no reason to use a rope-type phone
display, especially as one of its main competitors, the Vodafone Smart Prime 7,
which has a pleasing screen at just 75 degrees. Luckily, the K8 is not
disappointing. It offers its own 5-inch 720p panel, which more or less matches
the screen of VODA. Nah and you can see a single pixel, but at normal range
it's clear enough to enjoy photos and videos. The color is not soft or weak and
the viewing angle is also great.
The audio is extracted from the small speakers on the back of
the K8 so you can easily choke by mistake when using your phone. The sound
quality is the same as that of a pair of pants and it is difficult for you to
hear a sound that surpasses the usual background noise in the public eye. I do
not like to stream music and other entertainment? Do not worry; You can expand
the storage capacity of 8 GB by inserting a Micro SD memory card in your phone.
If you are really nervous, there is even a built-in FM radio so you can listen
to the simple radio 2.
LG K8 - Operating
System and Functions:
Although LG K4 insists on using older Android 5.1, K8 is
updating the full Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It gives you additional features
like full control over application permissions and old collections like
Google's Smart Lock support. LG has also added some of its own features with LG
UX. Security were improved with the addition of Knock Code, although we
personally found that this situation did not respond and eventually gave up.
The Capture + Notes tool is much better, it can be used to record messages
during a phone call. We like the improved notification bar, which adds
customizable shortcuts.
LG K8 - Performance and
battery life:
The LG K8 uses a Mediatek base processor and supports 1.5GB
of memory. While this clearly results in limited performance, we are very
pleased with the everyday experience of the phone. Android runs well and only
occasionally stops when an app loads, reminding you that this is a budget
blower. You can even play fast-paced games like real cars without breaking the
stutter of the game.
The battery life is not too hot. K8 will only see you in one
day, and occasionally a message check will be performed. However, if you surf
the Internet or destroy files, you lose about 20% of your life per hour. This
means that the K8 is definitely the best for casual or secondary phones. The
tiny battery with 2125 mAh is not particularly well suited for media streams.
We enjoy just over four hours of YouTube entertainment when fully charged,
which lags far behind most other cell phones.
LG K8 - Camera:
At this price, you probably should not expect quality squid,
but the K8's 8 megapixel camera can take weird social photos. First of all, the
camera app from LG is very good. It is just a simple point-and-click mode and
can be suitable for those who want a simple experience. The autofocus is not
very fast, but it can be done, or you can manually click to focus. Manual
control is limited, however, so the K8 appeals to the average consumer.
The camera in front of the camera is also very simple and
offers bad pictures in bad light. Video quality is also a bit of pants. Our HD
test lenses are pretty crude and require a manual focus to make the subject as
clear as possible. Of course, there is no image stabilization, so every little
action is completely copied into the finished video.
