Samsung sees OnePlus, Honor, Nokia and several other
smartphone brands with powerful midrange smartphones and wondered why its own
Galaxy A series devices did not attract the same attention. That may be because
they are not so exciting so far. But with the new Galaxy A9 from 2018, Samsung
offered us something with envious eyes. The Galaxy A9 stares through the four
camera lenses on the back.
Four cameras:
This is the world's first mobile phone with more camera
lenses, but this is the first phone with four lenses, especially noteworthy
because Samsung adds a satisfying function to the A-series phones, and you
cannot find that feature on the flagship Galaxy S four lens settings are
stacked vertically on the left side of the A9, including a 240-megapixel main
lens with f / 1.7 aperture, a 5-megapixel camera with f / 2.2 aperture and a 10
megapixel f / 2.4 aperture super the lens and finally a 8 megapixel telephoto
lens, also comes with a f / 2.4 aperture.
The Galaxy A9's four-lens camera array covers all sockets.
You can use Samsung's real-time focus mode to capture low-light, high-standard
photos in bokeh portrait photos, super-wide photos with 120-degree human-eye
viewing angles, and 2x optical zoom. Nothing is missing here, it's perfect for
Samsung's target market Instagram fans and those who want to shoot the best and
most sharable photos without buying a flagship device.
How does it work? We use the camera on a sunny day, so the
conditions are difficult. We like the simplicity of switching between modes
because it's an obvious button in the viewfinder, and there's no delay in doing
so. Live Focus is what we enjoy on the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus, and
it works well here with clear on-screen instructions and powerful final
results. The ultra-wide camera has an obvious fisheye effect, LG has moved away
from the G7 ThinQ, and the difference in aperture is obvious. The
ultra-wide-angle lens cannot handle bright conditioned lenses as usual.
This is a very limited test, but we are very impressed with
the versatility of the camera. This level of functionality is rare on any
mobile phone, not to mention phones that are not classified as flagship
products. Samsung has even introduced for the first time on its Galaxy Note 9,
the technology for scene detection. The camera app is the same as other Samsung
phones and is fast, logical and powerful. The only phone with this versatility
is the LG V40 ThinQ, which has three cameras on the back and two cameras on the
front.
The three-lens camera on the back of the Galaxy A9 is a very
brave Samsung that often makes a decent but uninspired A-Series phone. We are
glad to see that the investment in the camera has not stopped, the rest of the
phone feels and works high quality. The body of glass and aluminum is very
comfortable and lightweight. The 6.3-inch screen looks good, another great
example of the Samsung Super AMOLED panel, which offers full HD + resolution.
Beautiful colors:
When the camera turns its head, this is one of the best color
options you'll notice later. There are three to choose from - a shiny black
caviar option for boring, or a stunning bubblegum pink and lemonade blue rage.
The pink model looks magical, with real depth and shine, rather than turning
pink into a scary lipstick, you want to cover it with a pouch. The citrine blue
reminds us of the Huawei's color choice on the P20 Pro, with subtle green to
blue transitions. Both are winners.
The software is the same as other Samsung phones, based on
Android Oreo, Android Pie will be updated in the future. Although Bixby is also
a frontline and a center, few people will welcome it. Samsung's less successful
assistants can be pulled up by swiping the screen or pressing the dedicated
Bixby button on the left side of the device, which also powers Bixby Voice. In
addition to the suspicious use of Bixby, the Android version of Samsung is
visually appealing and works very well when we use the Galaxy A9.
Performance:
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660, it has 6GB of RAM and
128GB of internal memory and can hold up to 512GB of MicroSD card. No, it's not
a fully functional Snapdragon 845 like the OnePlus 6, but it's fast enough for
those who do not have a high level of gaming or multitasking. A 3,800 mAh
battery should last for at least a day, and it has a USB Type-C fast charge but
cannot be charged wirelessly. There's also Samsung Pay, Samsung Health and all
the other features you would expect, actually a Galaxy S phone.
This is our favorite Galaxy A9. The camera gave us reason to
want to use it, and it did not disappoint us when we did, and the rest of the
device continued to meet our expectations for Samsung's more expensive phones.
We are just as ashamed as many others (including Samsung) who have used the
Galaxy A phone in the past; but the Galaxy A9 in 2018 will stop.
About the price:
For one reason, the phone feels so close to the Galaxy S
phone because the Galaxy A9 costs £ 550 and can be converted to $ 725. If the
Galaxy A9 comes on the market in the US, it may cost less, so here we will use
the British price for comparison. It's just over 520 pounds of OnePlus 6, well
over 400 pounds of honor 10. If it's somewhere between the two, we'll be more
cost-effective. Still, this is the Samsung quality we've been talking about,
from quality and materials to software and camera settings. It has unique
features that you will not find anywhere else, as well as many Galaxy S and
Note device features, as well as a satisfying Samsung brand name, all far lower
than the cheapest S9. Currently, the 64GB Galaxy S9 is £ 680. Facing the
Samsung lens, it is a midrange phone.
