Smartphones that are close to or slightly above
the price of £257 usually perform well. Some mobile phones belonging to this
category can even compete with the high-end flagship. Enter HTC's Desire 800
series phone. Now, HTC's Desire series of smartphones have performed well
recently. They provide a subtle combination of good specifications and design,
and the story continues with Desire 826. So, can Desire 826 prove its price tag
is 257 GBP? Let's take a look.
Design and
construction:
As I said before, HTC Desire 826 is very similar
in design and builds quality to the other HTC Desire phones we have seen
recently. The build quality is very similar to what we saw on Desire 816 and
820s. However, in the entire Desire phone we recently reviewed, the Desire 826
design feels the most disappointing.
This is entirely due to the small changes in the
design. For example, the unique speaker grille at the top and bottom is now
hidden in the crack. The power and volume keys are somewhat hidden on the right
edge because they have a similar color to the side and are not very tactile.
Adding 183 grams of weight, a smooth glossy back and a large size means the
Desire 826 is not very ergonomic. Plastic manufacturing didn't install any
confidence, but it felt strong enough to take a small tap here and there, but
we still recommend a case.
Display and
user interface:
The Desire 826's 1080p 5.5-inch display is
beautiful from every angle. The display is bright and easily visible in direct
sunlight. Any kind of content is that images, videos, the user interface itself
or just games look good. The text looks good and the touch experience is
satisfactory.
When I got to the UI, I found the new interface
of Sense 6 quite similar to Sense 5. The animations have changed, but the core
set of apps and services remains the same. The Theme Manager is a welcome
addition and allows users to create their own themes using any image of their
choice. In addition to the theme manager, you'll get a smarter BlinkFeed
centered on more images, and the Sense Home Widget, which tries to recommend
apps that relate to your location, but are not particularly well-optimized.
Material design hints are visible in the user interface menus because the phone
comes with Android Lollipop.
Performance:
The Desire 826 is powered by a Qualcomm
Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core SoC, which emerged as the segment leader in the
installation of the 10-yu-yureka model. However, the competition is getting
harder over the 20km price mark. Now that OnePlus One is available without an
invitation, and the much cheaper 820s from HTC work almost the same, the Desire
826 is really controversial and has said that the phone had no problems with
daily tasks or graphically intense games. With prolonged use, however, the
phone became hotter and it became uncomfortable, and then there were problems
with the speed limit. In a good hour of playing "Brothers in Arms 3",
frame rates gradually dropped to a level where the phone stuttered on every
beat. With a 2600 mAh battery on board, I expected a fairly average battery
life, and that's exactly what the smartphone does. I was not able to use the
smartphone on a daily basis with the phone and it was necessary to charge it
quickly in the evening on most days. With the built-in energy-saving mode,
however, the battery could easily hold until bedtime. The results, however,
differ in intensive use, for example, after an hour of intense play. The phone
reported a drop of 38%, which did not quite convince me.
