HTC One (M8) is the best Android smartphone. The design is
elegant enough to give the iPhones a complex look. The 4 megapixel camera
(Ultrapixel camera), however, was a bit disappointing. HTC seems to have
finally noticed that the newest One (E8) is equipped with a 13-megapixel
rear-view camera (without Ultrapixel gimmick). To make it more affordable than
the flagship One (M8), the Taiwanese company has abandoned the metal
construction.
Design and Build:
At first glance, the front of the E8 looks similar to that of
the M8. You get the iconic front speakers that really stand out. The E8,
however, lacks the attention to detail that we usually get from HTC. On closer
inspection, you can easily see lumpy surfaces where the display and housing
meet. Of course, the biggest turn in E8 is the plastic body. Not that we
despise plastic, but the white version is so shiny that it reminds of the
plastic used in old Bajaj mixers. Therefore, it is better to opt for the black
because it has a matte finish.
Just like the M8, the back of this phone is slightly bent.
The camera lens is in the middle. A notch above it is an LED flash. A slot for
two SIM cards is located on the left side. On the opposite side, you get a
micro SD card slot and a volume rocker. The micro USB port and the 3.5mm jack
are located below. The lock button is still on the top. To make it even more
inaccessible, HTC has placed it in the middle (on the top). The phone comes
with standard accessories such as a charger, a USB cable and earphones.
Specifications:
The phone is equipped with a 5-inch Super LCD3 touch screen.
With Full HD resolution, it has exactly the same pixel density (441 ppi) as that
of the One (M8). We are pleased with the crispness of the E8 screen; the
viewing angles are also neat: Like any high-end device, the E8 has the scratch-resistant
Gorilla Glass 3. The One (E8) is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801
chipset with 2GB of RAM. Gaming is provided by the new Adreno 330 GPU. The
photo department has 13 megapixel main cameras, 16 GB of internal memory and a
2600 mAh Li-Polymer battery. There is a 5 megapixel snapper for selfies. To
keep costs down, HTC has released the infrared port and duo camera setup.
The HTC One (M8) runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. It looks
exactly as we saw it on the HTC One M8. You get the customization of the HTC
Sense user interface (version 6), which looks better than the popular Android.
Directly from the lock screen, the interface elements look clean. The color
scheme of HTC is eye-friendly. You can set up to six home screens. One of them,
however, is dedicated to the HTC BlinkFeed, which displays the latest news and
social network alerts in an endless scrollable feed. Of course you can change
it according to your interests. With a quad-core Snapdragon 801 inside, there's
hardly any stuttering in the user interface. In terms of gaming performance,
the phone had no issues with current titles like Rival Knights and Modern
Combat 5. For those interested in numbers.
