Now that Intel has brought the latest
generation of the eighth-generation CPU generation to market, Samsung has
released a new notebook for gamers: the notebook Odyssey Z. It is based on a
new Intel Core i7 processor, in addition to Nvidia's GeForce six cores and 12
threads includes GTX 1060 discrete graphics processor with 6GB of dedicated
graphics memory. The laptop is now available in Korea and China, with a North
American launch scheduled for the third quarter.
Samsung's big pitch with the notebook
Odyssey Z regulates the heat. The design is based on three components: the
Dynamic Spread Vapor Chamber, Samsung's Z Airflow Cooling design and Z-Blade
blowers. The "smart" steam chamber is an area that extends between
the left and right sides of the laptop and covers the processor and graphics
chip. It is designed so that the two fans of the laptop - one via the CPU and
one via the GPU - can carry cold air to the hottest areas above and below the
motherboard. The entire hot air is thus expelled through the rear vents of the
laptop.
The device also has a silent mode
option that allows the user to change keyboard shortcuts for quieter operation.
Directly in front of the keyboard are two 1.5 W speakers pointing forward. The
laptop has a 54 Wh battery, which probably will not last long in gaming mode.
According to Samsung, the notebook Odyssey Z has a silent mode option, which
you can switch over a keyboard shortcut to achieve quieter operation. The
keyboard itself features Crater Keycaps, highlighted by a silver metallic theme
and a red backlight. In the meantime, Samsung pressed the precision touch pad
on the right side of the keyboard to create a more natural feel for
right-handed people. Directly in front of the keyboard are two front speakers.
The company relies on the thermal
management of the laptop. It has ventilation holes everywhere and a new cooling
system that basically acts like a double fan with a steam chamber. The cooling
system consists of three components - the Dynamic Spread Vapor Chamber, the Z
Airflow Cooling design from Samsung and the Z-Blade blowers. The steam chamber
is designed so that the two fans of the laptop - one above the CPU and one
above the GPU - can carry cold air to the hottest areas above and below the
motherboard. All hot air is expelled through the rear vents of the laptop.
As the table above shows, you can
configure the laptop with up to 16GB of system memory and up to 1TB of storage;
however, you can add an external storage device through the laptop's USB-C port
or one of the three USB-A ports. The USB add-on includes an HDMI output and a
headphone / microphone combo audio jack. The aim of the Odyssey Z notebook is
to create a dynamic, user-friendly notebook that takes gaming experiences to a
whole new level, from vivid displays to powerful processor performance,
"Samsung's YoungGyoo Choi said in a statement. "The seamless look,
combined with an industry-leading cooling system, will help our players enhance
their gaming experience.
