HTC has not given up, at least not, according to the
company's chairman and former CEO Cher Wang. She recently made a statement at
CES 2019 (some of them during a brief interview). She said that the company's
business prospects for 2019 are positive and that it will continue to drive the
handset business and deny rumors HTC wants to focus only on VR and sell its
smartphone business. Cher Wang said that the company is also looking at
significant growth in VR revenue, so VR is definitely still in the eyes of HTC.
HTC plans to achieve VR revenue growth by offering "integrated hardware,
platform, content, and related services," said the company's executive.
Well, 5G was arguably the most interesting part of Cher
Wang's testimony, since she mentioned that HTC is working on a 5G enabled
smartphone, but will not be launching the company's phone until the second half
of the year. She added that the company is serious about 5G, but wants to give
consumers the best possible experience, and that the company does not believe
that the market for a 5G enabled phone is mature enough. 5G will become a deal
at the end of this year as carriers offer such speeds, but it will not become
standard in the near future.
The company will focus on developing 5G mobile smart hub
products while we wait for the 5G smartphone so everything is ready when the
time comes. She also said that the start of commercial operation of 5G networks
will lead to the launch of AV / VR applications and that integrating 5G, AR /
VR, AI and Blockchain technologies will only be of use to HTC in the long term.
Of course, Cher Wang continued to comment on his VR operations. She said HTC
intends to add more hardware to the VR portfolio by launching an updated Vive
Pro Eye headset in the second quarter of this year.

mini-interview at CES 2019. HTC's smartphone sales have fallen sharply for some
time, and the company is nowhere near where it used to be-the largest
