Once the king of Android Hill, it's no secret that HTC has
recently taken a small dive. It no longer keeps the market and the heads of
enthusiastic smartphone fans in control. However, this is not to say that the
phones of HTC perform poorly. Some have some weird design decisions, but the
company still delivers sophisticated hardware at various price points. From the
sleek, transparent glass design of the U12 Plus to the more affordable Desire
models that make up the look for less, we're still thrilled with HTC, though
competitors like Samsung and Huawei are now outperforming in sales.

1. HTC U11 +:
Although the U12 + is not available, the U11 + is still the
better choice due to the problems with the newer phone. The U11 + has
impressive specifications for the price, including 128GB of memory as standard.
We also like the improved screen and waterproofing, but the phone will be too
big and heavy for some. In the broader market, the U11 + is not the leader in
any category. Edge Sense is the selling point here, but you can do the same
with the cheaper Pixel 2.
2. HTC U11:
The HTC U11 has a lot to please, and while it certainly has
flagship specifications, it's unlikely to be different on the market from
Samsung and LG. The shiny and colorful design is fresh, but not for everyone,
although we're glad it's finally waterproof. The key is whether you want the
squeezable Edge Sense feature, which is sometimes useful, but not something we
love.
3. HTC 10:
Despite its age (released in 2016), the HTC 10 is still a
good smartphone at a good price. It has a solid workmanship and a camera that
is not as good as the U11 or U12 +, but still pretty good. Android update
support will not be available while a newer phone is available. If you find it
for less than 300 Euro / 300 Euro, it is a bit of a bargain.
4. HTC U12 Life:
HTC is clearly in a position to make a decent middle-class
smartphone, as we have seen with the U11 Life. The follow-up is quite another,
namely giving up Android One and Edge Sense, but that makes up for it
elsewhere. The price is lower, so buying the U12 Life for under £ 300 is an
attractive price and you generally get decent data, including a large screen,
Snapdragon 636 and a large battery. Oh, and the return of a headphone jack.
However, it is not perfect because not everyone will like the design with its
shiny / striped back. We'd be happier if the HDR camera mode was better, but
we're a bit fussy.
5. HTC Desire 12+:
The Desire 12+ is a decent hassle for a cheap phone and there
are a number of things we like, namely the lightweight and comfortable design
and generally good performance. However, there are some downside issues in some
important areas, such as the screen, which is not as sharp as we would like,
and the cameras that are inferior.
6. HTC U11 Life:
The HTC U11 Life is a tidy midrange phone. it seems that the
company is now cheaper than flagships. Getting 4GB of RAM and 64GB of memory as
standard is a real plus, as well as the inclusion of Android One for standard
software and updates.
7. HTC U12 +:
The HTC U12 Plus is a disappointment. It uses the strong
foundation of Edge Sense's U11 and a great camera, and messes up development.
The software has aged a lot (mainly due to missing changes) and the battery
life is poor.
