At first glance, the HTC One M8s looks like a doubly
expensive phone, with a vivid screen and good hardware. However, the more you
use it, the more you will find that the shiny shell is the only bonus.
Wondering why there is no HTC One M9 Mini? You might come up one day, but until
then, the HTC One M8s is here to give us 90% of what the phone would offer, in
addition to being much smaller than the Top Dog.
The HTC M8s is last year's One-M8 phone, which means it looks
and feels first-rate, while costing just over £ 150 less than the most
expensive phones. Sounds like a good deal, right? The HTC One M8s is a good buy
for almost £ 340 / $ 550 / $ 720 SIM-free or free on a £ 20-30 contract a
month. With hardware similar to the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 for £ 125, this is a
mid-range device sold at a higher mid-priced price. It's by no means an
"upgrade" to the HTC One M8 - camera performance is not hot and the
inadequate taming of the Snapdragon 615 processor leads to annoying battery
life.
Design and Specifications:
We start with a bright spot. The HTC One M8s has a beautiful
design that is considered a $500 mobile phone and is one of your skilled
friends. In the first, second and third eyes, it seems to use exactly the same
casing as last year's HTC One M8. However, the HTC One M8s is 0.26 mm thicker
than the M8 (9.6 mm). It's hard to notice with one hand per hand, and I
wouldn't be surprised if the backshell components are the same. Finally, the
cost of the tool will decrease. The quality of the material will not decrease.
The One M8s features a flattened aluminum tail with a soft curvature that is
the real hand. Don't forget that this is a more cumbersome device than most
manufacturers' high-end phones. It feels as good as the HTC One M9.
The phone is available in silver, gray and gold and is a
predictable replica of the One M8's color styles. We test the gray version and
it is both serious and serious looking. Considering that people have previously
paid the same amount for some watered mini versions of cell phones like the
Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, you cannot help but be a little impressed. For ports,
jacks and buttons, the HTC One M8s shade, you guessed it, the One M8. And here
we find one of the few Niggles with the design of the phone. This is not a huge
phone, but it's a big one, and we're a little disappointed that the power
switch still lives on top and not on the side. The result is that sometimes you
have to move the HTC One M8s in your palm to reach the key and quit
hibernation.
The HTC fires back with a partial backup because you can turn
on the phone with a double tap when you enable gestures. But there is no
ergonomic substitute for a power button that fits under your thumb: it just
feels like home, quite simply. Given that the HTC One M9 has a side button,
there's no clearer sign that the One M8 is reusing some remaining One M8 bits.
The phone has two pop-out compartments, one on each side of the body. The left
holds the Nano SIM, the right the Micro SD card. You get 16GB or 32GB of
storage, though most retailers seem to have only the 16GB version. But we're
going around the main event, the BoomSound speakers. Since the adventures with
the odd camera technology have largely failed, top HTC phones tend to get props
for two reasons: construction and sound quality. The HTC One M8s was not
equipped with the new Dolby sound mode of the M9, but has the well-known, well
above average front speakers. Almost never before, they sound richer and fuller
than 95% of the competition.
