Samsung's next flagship, probably the Galaxy S10, is reported
to have twice as many cameras as Apple's latest iPhone. The Galaxy S10 is launched
on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its first flagship smartphone. There
are four cameras on the back of the device and two on the front. The Galaxy S10
is also reportedly fitted with a 6.7-inch screen and comes with 5G support,
though this may only be available in South Korea and the US. The expected
release date is February 2019.
The latest rumors come just a month after Samsung unveiled a
smartphone with four separate lenses on the back of the device. The mid-range
Galaxy A9 is "optimized for the Instagram generation" according to
the South Korean company, with each camera lens fulfilling a different
function. Earlier rumors surrounding the Galaxy S10 suggest that the smartphone
will not follow the lead of other manufacturers by introducing a notch design
at the top of the screen.
When Apple first abandoned a rectangular screen for the
iPhone, Samsung mocked the unconventional design in an advertisement in which
the score was compared to a ridiculous haircut. The design allowed Apple to use
a front camera and face recognition technology on the front of the iPhone,
while the screen could extend to the corners.
A recent patent application indicates that Samsung is instead
aiming for a hole in the upper left corner of the display to capture a forward
looking camera. The Galaxy S10 is not the only high-end smartphone Samsung wants
to bring to market in 2019, a foldable mobile phone that is also expected of
the electronics giant. The bendy device was launched earlier this month
following the company's annual developer conference. The company said it will
serve as the "foundation of tomorrow's smartphone". Samsung is
working with Google to support the Android mobile operating system on the
foldable phone.
According to the source, there are three versions of the
Galaxy S10: a normal S10, an S10 Plus and a flat screen version, which we now
call S10 Lite. This is consistent with leaks we've heard before, namely that
the Samsung Galaxy S10 model is available on three models codenamed
"Beyond 0", "Beyond 1" and "Beyond 2". The source
also confirms an earlier leak, indicating that the S10 displays the Infinity O
indicator. In this case, the selfie camera has a hole in the screen. This
feature has just been introduced for the Galaxy A8.
The S10 will also have a fingerprint reader on the screen,
and how the Huawei Mate 20 Pro can charge other devices wirelessly. For screen
sizes, we consider a 6.1-inch screen for the S10, a 6.4-inch screen for the S10
Plus, and a 5.8-inch screen for the cheaper flat-screen version of the phone.
