HTC was not a show at this year's MWC. And after the takeover
by Google's expanding phone arm last year, thinking of the Taiwanese smartphone
offering would be devastated. HTC has announced two new phones that may not be
as powerful as the recently released Samsung Galaxy S9, but offer a handful of
great features at a great price. The HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12 Plus is a pair
of smartphones that could stop the Moto G6's budget before it even starts.
Likewise, the price remains a mystery. However, given the
cheap internal components (more on that later), there's no reason why the price
of the HTC Desire 12 will make your wallet go up. The HTC Desire 12 will cost
around £ 150 and its soured-up alternative, the Desire 12 Plus, will be
available for around £ 200.
HTC Desire 12 Design:
What does it look like?
The 18: 9 edge-to-edge displays on the front of the Desire 12
are hard to miss. With a resolution of 1,440x720, this IPS display is a first
for HTC's budget phones and, as long as the price is maintained a minimum,
could make the Desire 12 a very lucrative choice for lighter wallets.
The phone is made of durable acrylic glass on the back with
slightly rounded edges and can be purchased in gold, black or silver. On the
bottom there is the micro USB port for charging, flanked by a 3.5mm headphone
jack. On the right side are the volume rocker and the on / off switch. On the
left side are the Micro SD and Nano SIM slots. Unlike Plus, there is no
fingerprint reader on the back of the device. Only the single camera appears at
the top right and the HTC logo is in the middle of the back of the phone.
HTC Desire 12 and HTC
Desire 12 Plus: What's the difference?
What about this plus-size alternative? Well, there are some
notable differences between the two models: the most important one is that the
Desire 12 Plus has a dual 13- and 2-megapixel camera on the back, while the
Desire 12 has a single 13-megapixel snapper, Elsewhere, the addition of
Qualcomm's 1.8GHz Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor with 8GB of RAM and 32GB
of storage is supported, expandable via micro-SD storage. The HD + screen is
slightly larger at 6 inches and the battery capacity is increased to 2,965 mAh.
I am glad that HTC still manufactures smartphones. After the
Google buyout, I was worried that the longtime company would be out of stock -
and this year's MWC certainly did not help - but both the Desire 12 and the 12
Plus could be the phones to show the world that HTC still does, at least in a small
capacity of low budget. As long as the price is kept to a minimum - we expect
every minute an announcement - the Desire 12 has all the features to beat the
budget smartphone this year. Only the Moto G6 hurdle needs to be overcome.
