Samsung Galaxy S4 is the most anticipated smartphone this
year, but after the launch in New York in March, Samsung let us wait on the
phone. In the meantime, HTC One stole Samsung's position at the top of our
A-list and now potential buyers is not only wondering if it's better than their
rivals, but even if it's better than its predecessor.
It is easy to see why so many people have tried to discover
the difference between the new Galaxy S3 and the S4: their two curved phones,
the chrome edge and the familiar start button. The only significant difference
is close. The screen is slightly larger, the lower lip is smaller and the
sensors on the screen are refined. There is a black dot - an infrared sensor,
which uses S4 to control movement control functions. The upper part of the
phone still has a warning light, using full RGB colors to enhance HTC's
two-tone light.
The new phone is more compact and better packed than its
predecessor, although it has a slightly larger screen: thinner than 5 mm and a
bit lighter, but it feels firmer, almost nothing. We love the back of the S4
diamond, which is a big improvement over the regular S3, but the housing is
still completely plastic and has no reassurance about the aluminum housing of
the HTC One. It is not like a 500-pound device. At least the detachable plastic
back panel, which gives access to microSD slots and replaceable batteries, wins
Samsung points for versatility.
Screen:
5 inches, 1,920 x 1,080 Super AMOLED disks in S4 use the Pen Tile
raster, but the edges that can appear on this display type are not dimmed. The
441ppi ensures that Samsung's screen is the clearest on the market. The black
value is perfect. The distinction between dark black and bright white is
treated as applause, and the color of the S4 is richer than that of the HTC's
LCD screen. Viewing angle is excellent.
But there is a problem. The measured maximum brightness of
the S4 is 221 cd / m² / sup and cannot match that of the HTC 481 cd / m² [/
sup], and the deep black level does not take the shortest part. When comparing
images and phones, there is a lack of pages and games. The screen of S4 is
still one of the best in the business, but here it is the second.
Performance:
The European S4 handset does not offer 1.6 GHz 8-core
processors. Instead, it is housed in a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon
600. You might be disappointed with the speed monster, but it's the same
processor as the HTC One, and you do not have to deal with it.
