The XPERIA XZ2 Premium on the benchmark platform runs on
Android 9 Pie. In August, Sony confirmed that its nine devices will receive
Android 9 Pie updates, including the newly discovered XPERIA XZ2 Premium and
other handheld devices: XPERIA XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XPERIA XZ Premium, XPERIA XZ1,
XZ1 Compact, XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus.
Sony has also reiterated its plans to upgrade its premium
models to the latest Android 9 Pie version from November, while XA2, XA2 Ultra
and XA2 Plus users should receive this update in early 2019. Turning to the
benchmark will reveal a device that will score less when running Android Oreo
8.0. However, we would like to mention that we have managed to get a list from
the Geekbench platform itself. Maybe the phone is in the first test phase,
which is why we were able to score points.
To check the details of the XPERIA XZ2 Premium, Sony
announced the launch of the phone in April. It has a 5.8-inch IPS LCD display
with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and a screen-to-body ratio of 72.4%. In
the following, the device is powered by an eight-core Snapdragon 845 chipset
with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of memory. Smartphones even have a microSD card slot
that can scale up to 512GB. At the beginning, during the launch, the smartphone
Android 8.0 Oreo launched from the box.
The Sony XZ2 Premium's 5.8-inch IPS display offers impressive
high resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) and supports HDR content. On a tiny
screen just a few inches from your face, the extra resolution on a QHD + screen
or even a 1080p screen makes little sense. Although the default settings are
really amazing, Sony's X-Reality video image enhancements are enabled, but when
viewing the HDR YouTube display, it's really hard to tell the difference
between 1440p and 2160p. Compare HDR Netflix footage on XZ2 Premium with Dolby
Vision Netflix playback on the iPhone Xs Max. Both seem incredible, but XZ2
Premium fights in the dark scenes of Lost in Space because of its relatively
low 1.464: 1 contrast ratio, Which is not achieved by the perfect contrast of
the OLED display of the iPhone Xs Max. In contrast, the black value is gray and
the white area is not so pronounced. The display itself is very bright with a
maximum output of 505 cd / m2, which means that the display can be read even on
the brightest sunny days.
Since the Sony XPERIA XZ2 Premium has three display modes,
things are confusing here. The standard display settings, the middle floor
labeled Professional and the intensely vibrating mode Super-Vivid. The XZ2
Premium has two rear-facing cameras: a 19-megapixel main camera with a 1: 1.8
aperture a phase-detection autofocus, and a 12-megapixel secondary camera to
increase the depth of false portraits. The front camera is also quite large
with 13 million pixels. Self-timer cameras have the ability to capture subtle
details and subtle colors.
Sony's XPERIA XZ2 is the first phone to record 4K HDR video,
but it's not that useful, so I'd like to try it here to see if the situation
has improved. In fact they have! You can now record 4K HDR video, it looks
amazing. Even better, the camera stabilizer works. Please note that when
recording HDR, you can only record up to 30 frames per second. If you want
60fps of footage, you need to pull down to Full HD recording. Camera stability
in 4K HDR is actually more impressive than the quality of the material itself.
Once I started spinning as fast as possible, and after watching the video, it
was completely visible. For guerrilla filmmakers Sony XPERIA XZ2 Premium is the
ideal choice. Like the previous XZ Premium, it can also record snapshots in
ultra-slow 960fps Full HD.
XPERIA XZ3 (also included with Snapdragon 845) and Galaxy S9
+ are powered by Samsung's latest generation Exynos 9810 chip. Nevertheless, it
is close enough that you will not notice the difference in daily use. At least
XZ2 Premium can use XZ3 and Galaxy 9+ in the graphics department for better
results. In the GFXBench Manhattan screen benchmark, the average is 57 fps,
which is similar to a 60 Hz display.
